Fred-Report:

Hello,

writing again from Antarctica. It’s really so amazing outside, huge icebergs and lots of thick and old sea ice around our ship.

You see it’s a bit snowy and icy, but I love these weather conditions. In my new warm polar clothes I now can go everywhere. My new friend Andreas however always needs good weather, cause otherwise he couldn’t start his little aeroplane which measures the turbulence in the lower part of the atmosphere. Believe me or not, no one else but he is able to measure it in such a detail.

Andreas and his colleague Barbara, a meteorologist, both work at the TU Braunschweig, are really nice. At our last ice station I was allowed to fly on the wings of their plane – that was really fun, but after a while a little bit cold. So I was glad, that the helicopter pilots gave me a headset specially made for me.

By the way, also the penguins came along and watched Andreas and Barbara during their measurement flights.

Yours,
Fred
