Sea days on the way to South Georgia

After a shopping afternoon in Port Lockroy at the first of March we had planned a landing in Whalers Bay in Deception Island in the morning of the second of March. But the weather became so bad and stormy that we have not been able to sail through the so called “Neptune’s Bellow” into the caldera. The captain made even the decision to sail directly to South Georgia to be there in time, as the weather forecast promised us strong winds and storms for the next days. I did not become sea sick at all and I used the time at sea to get new friends. The officers at the bridge have a bigger collection of little toys like me from all around the world. Sitting together with them in the window I had the possibility to watch the officers or to look over the endless sea.

Sometimes I got the permission to sit even at the Captain’s chair. That was wonderful. I felt directly important.
